The Renault RS10 was the successor to the RS01 and had just had the marque’s first real success at the previous round at Dijon, winning the race in the hands of Jean-Pierre Jabouille with his teammate Rene Arnoux finishing on the podium after a titanic battle in the closing stages with the Ferrari of Gilles Villeneuve.
